An experiment was conducted in the experimental farm of Cantho University to evaluate the effects of different protein levels on the reproductive performance of crossbred rabbits. The experiment had a complete randomized design with four treatments, three replicates and one female rabbit per experimental unit. The diets included para grass, supplemented with water spinach leaves and concentrate in order to provide 28, 31, 34 and 37g crude protein (CP) per rabbit per day, respectively. In three litters the results indicated that intakes of dry matter (DM) and CP significantly increased (p<0.03) with increasing the levels of CP in the diets, with the highest values for the CP37 diet. Higher litter sizes at birth were found for rabbits fed higher CP levels, with the highest on the CP37 diet (p<0.02), and litter size at weaning had a similar tendency. Mean weights at birth were only slightly different (NS) between treatments. However, mean weights at weaning tended to be higher on the CP34 and CP37 diets (except for the third litter). Weight gains in pregnancy were highest on the CP37 diet (p<0.04) and milk yields clearly increased (p<0.01) corresponding with increasing the CP levels in the diet and were highest on the CP37 diet. A comparison between the three litters showed that litter size at birth, and at weaning, and milk yield were highest for the second litter, but significantly higher weight gain in pregnancy was found for the first litter. It was concluded that feeding 34 - 37g CP per day improves the reproductive performance of female crossbred rabbits.
