Digestibility of treated soya bean waste in growing pigs

Abstract

A digestibility trial on different treated soya bean wastes was carried out to determine the apparent nutrient digestibility by growing pigs. Four crossbreed and castrated male  pigs with a mean initial live weight of 33 kg were used in a double 4*4 Latin square design. Soya bean waste (SW) were collected from the small-scale processing households and were treated by three method in order to reduce the levels of anti-nutritional factors contained in the raw bean as they were made into silage (ESW) by mixing with 10% molasses or boiled (BSW), or dry (DSW). The treated soya bean waste replaced 50% CP of fish meal in the diets.

DM content was highest in DSW and lowest in BSW. CP content was not different among treatments.  The apparent digestibility of DM was highest in DSW, then ESW and lowest in BSW while apparent protein digestibility was highest in BSW and lowest in DSW.
