Effect of supplementation with stem, pod and leaf of soybean hay on growth rate of Co and  F1 (Bach Thao x Co) goats in Hoa Binh province

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of supplementation with stem, pod and leaf of soybean hay on growth rate of Co goat and  F1 (Bach Thao x Co) in Yen Thuy district Hoa Binh province. Eight Co goats and eight F1 goats (Bach Thao x Co) of about 4-5 months of age  were randomly allotted to one of two blocks according to weight and sex. The control goats were grazed during 5 hours per day. The treatments were supplementation with stem, pod and leaf of soybean hay ad libitum.

The composition (DM basis) of the soybean pods and stems taken from the fresh and dry samples ranged from 7.10 to 6.18% for crude protein , 49.6 to 55.5% for crude fibre, 6.53 to 4.33 for ash and  2.63 to 1.54% for lipids. Crude protein content (in DM) of soybean leaf hay was higher than soybean pods and stems hay (15.% comparison with 6.18%). Crude fibre content (in DM) of soybean pods and stems hay was higher than soybean leaf hay (55.5 comparison 28.0%). After 3 months of experiment, DM intake and live weight gain of the supplemented  goats were higher than for the control goats both Co goat, for both  and F1 (Bach Thao x Co). The Co goats supplemented with soybean stem, pod and leaf hay tended to have daily weight gain higher than the goats without supplement.  F1 (Bach Thao x Co) goats supplemented with  soybean stem, pod and leaf hay had higher weight gain than the goats without supplementation.
