Abstract

A growth trial over 128 days was conducted with 20 local goats of 7 to 12 kg live weight to determine effects on growth performance of supplementing a basal diet of foliage of Tithonia diversifolia with chopped sugar cane and foliage of Gliricidia sepium.  The design was a 2*2 factorial with 5 replications.

DM intake and live weight gain were increased and DM feed conversion was improved, by supplementation with Gliricidia foliage (Figures 1, 3 and 5). Supplementation with sugar cane improved feed intake, live weight gain and feed conversion when the basal diet was only Tithonia, but had no effect when the goats were fed Tithomia supplemented with Gliricidia (Figures 2, 4 and 6).
