Ensiled cassava leaves supplemented with palm oil (Elaeis guineensis), broken rice and dried fish for growing pigs

Hypothesis

Mr Chhay Ty will test the hypothesis that: Growth rates, digestibility and N retention in pigs fed ensiled cassava leaves will increase when palm oil and broken rice are added to the diet.

 

Experimental plan

There are 2 experiments. The first experiment is “Evaluation of the digestibility and N retention by pigs fed cassava silage supplemented with either broken rice or a mixture of palm oil, broken rice,  and with different levels of dried fish. This experiment uses 4 castrated male crossbreed piglets with an initial body weight of 10 according to a balanced 4*4 Latin square arrangement, with the following treatments:

·        P0: Cassava silage + Broken rice +fish meal

·        P5: Cassava silage+ Broken rice+ palm oil (5%) + fish meal

·        P10: Cassava silage+ Broken rice+ palm oil (10%) +fish meal

·        P5: Cassava silage+ Broken rice+ palm oil (15%) + fish meal

Measurement is of digestibility of DM, OM and N and the N retention. 

The second experiment is “Performance of growing pigs fed ensiled cassava leaves supplemented with broken rice or a mixture of palm oil and broken rice and different levels of dried fish”. In this experiment are 8 females and 8 males with initial body weight of 10 to 15kg.  The design is a comparison of 4 dietary treatments (the same as in experiment 1) and 2 sexes according to a factorial arrangement 4*2 with 2 replications.  Measurements are of growth, feed conversion and carcass quality.
