60 weeks (60 credits =  15 credits for courses + 45 credits for research).

4. Prerequisites for admission

4.1  Undergraduate degree

BSc in Animal Science / Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Medicine / Agriculture/ Forestry / Aquaculture

4.2 Certificate in English

English language test:  (450 points in written International TOEFL test or 4.5 in academic IELTS test).

 

5. Goals and objectives

5.1 General goals

      ability to make independent and critical assessments,

         ability to independently perceive, formulate and solve problems, and preparedness to meet changes in future professional work.Within the area that the education concerns, the students shall in addition to knowledge and skills develop the ability to:

         seek and evaluate knowledge at a scholarly level,

         follow the development of knowledge, and

         exchange knowledge with other people, including people without specialist knowledge of the field.

Knowledge, skills and abilities :

         further develop students’ ability to independently integrate and use knowledge,

         develop students’ ability to deal with complex phenomena, issues and situations, and develop the students’ potential for professional activities that demand considerable independence or for research and development work.” 

5.2 Special requirements for a degree of MSc in Sustainable Tropical Livestock Production

After completing the program the student should:

         have acquired a deep understanding of the role of livestock in smallholder farming systems in the tropicshave acquired an appreciation of the role of livestock in poverty alleviation, gender equality, and in regional and global issues such as climate change, biodiversity, pollution, etc.

         be capable of independently designing, planning &conducting on-station and on-farm livestock-based research, and of writing applications for research funding

         be able to design and implement improved feeding and management systems suitable for small farmers based on locally available feed resources to be able to communicate the knowledge acquired during the course of the program to different target groups, in particular undergraduate students, small farmers and extension personnel

Estimated cost for Lao and Cambodia candidates is USD 11 500, including per diem in Cantho during the course work and for thesis defense(USD 1800), a laptop computer (USD 1000), travel to Cantho by bus (USD 200), expenses in the Miniprojects (USD 500), fee charged by Cantho University  (USD 2000) and the research Project (USD 6000).
