Workshops on construction and use of in vitro systems to simulate digestion in the rumen and processes taking place in biodigesters charged with waste water

The workshops were held in Laos (at the Livestock Research Center of NAFRI from 26 to 27 May) and in Cambodia (in CelAgrid from 1 to 2 June). Mr Sangkhom Inthapanya, from the Faculty of Agriculture and Forest Resource of Souphanouvong University directed the demonstrations on:

Building the in vitro systems from recycled one-liter water bottles.
Preparing the reagents for the rumen in vitro system.
Measuring the production of gas and the content of methane in the gas produced during the in vitro rumen incubation and the fermentation of substrates in the biodigester managed for batch and “plug-flow” modes of digestion.
Production of biochar in a gasifier stove charged with rice husks

In the workshop in LRC, the participants were: Ms Outhomphone Senviset, Mr Phonetheb Porsavathdy (Savannakhet University), Mr Souksakone Vivasane, Mr Bounthavy Vongkhamchanh (Champasack University), Mr Toum (LRC, NAFRI), Mr Phanthavong Vongsamphanh (Ministry of Agriculture).
